RCC Clubs Instructors

Reston Community Center’s (RCC) Leisure & Learning department is seeking professional instructors to facilitate activities for their RCC Clubs program. RCC Clubs is a new program, working to support Reston Opportunity Neighborhood (RestON), to provide after school programs held at the following three Reston schools: Dogwood Elementary, Forest Edge Elementary and Lake Anne Elementary.

Programs will be held for three, eight week sessions during the 2017-18 school year. Each of the RCC Clubs offered will rotate to one of the three schools, each session, from 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. once a week. The ideal candidate for this position will have an outgoing, enthusiastic personality and able to work effectively with children in grades 4-6.  

We are currently seeking instructors to facilitate the following RCC Clubs:

  • Cursive Club (teaching youth cursive handwriting and hand lettering techniques)
  • Zen Club (teaching youth yoga and/or meditation)
  • Language Club (introducing youth to a foreign language and/or American Sign Language)


  • Lead, teach, and oversee curriculum planning for their club
  • Encourage an open and fun environment in which students learn a new skill
  • Create and provide a class description for their club
  • Monitor and track weekly attendance records of their participants


  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in a specialized interest or skill, with preferably one year teaching experience leading a program for elementary-aged youth
  • Strong public speaking, presentation and performance skills
  • Can demonstrates techniques and concepts required by their club’s curriculum
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Documented ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Has reliable transportation with the ability to rotate among the three (3) proposed schools; will not be required to transport students
